The miner was employed by the company's mining contractor Byrnecut Burkina Faso.
Trevali reported Thursday senior management on site was working closely with the Byrnecut operations team to thoroughly investigate the accident in conjunction with government authorities.
The company did not say until when operations would be suspended, or whether the shutdown would have an impact on the mine's 2018 production guidance, which calls for between 155 million and 165 million pounds of payable zinc, at site operating costs of US$103 and $113 per tonne.
