The blockade is in Tuntuma in Cuzco region, 200km from the mine. The community has requested a payment of 1 million soles (US$277,446) from the company for development projects. The blockade commenced when the company's counter proposal was rejected.
Las Bambas has produced 190,586 tonnes of copper in 2020 through August, 23.9% less than in the 2019 period.
The mine experienced a 28% drop in output to 73,319t during the first quarter due to operational challenges and community blockades.
The road access has been repeatedly blocked since the mine began operations with the company evaluating the construction of the concentrate pipeline which was originally included in its planning documents.
