Chile's test to reanimate mining investment

Chile is a mining success story. The South American country is the world's leading producer of copper, third in molybdenum and the seventh largest silver producer. Mining also makes Chile, a small country in terms of population, a strong emerging market as it represents some 15% of GDP, 60% of exports and 20% of fiscal income. However, investment bank Morgan Stanley says

Miners are facing increasing environmental regulation and stiffer enforcement, increasing social tension and opposition, as well as changes to government policies that underpinned investment security....
