OEFA orders halt at Shougang Hierro due to contamination

The regulator detected material leaks from iron ore stockpiles during an inspection. It also ordered the company to present a remediation programme within five days for the area affected.

Shougang Hierro Perú produces iron ore concéntrate and pellets.

In 2018, it began a US$1.5 billion expansion to double its capacity from 10 million tonnes a year to 20Mtpy of iron ore concentrate, reported Andina. The expansion includes high-pressure grinding rolls, four ball mills and the largest seawater desalination plant in Peru.
