The latest batch of results, comprising 6,181m of diamond drilling over 21 holes, reported strong intercepts in general, including 6.6g/t over 10.9m and two intercepts grading 9g/t over 3.3m.

"The 2019 delineation drilling programme continues to deliver positive results from the Lac Gamble zone," said senior VP for exploration Craig MacDougall.

"As mentioned before, our involvement in the newly optioned Rouyn gold project was based on the potential to rapidly delineate mineral resources along the targeted Cadillac Break, which could be evaluated as potential satellite deposits for our Westwood operation. Once the remaining assay results are in hand, the exploration team will work to develop a preliminary deposit model to support a future initial resource estimate."

The objective of the 2019 winter diamond drilling program was to infill a portion of the Lac Gamble zone previously drilled by Yorbeau and various joint-venture partners.

For the most part, gold mineralisation occurs as small specks of visible free gold associated with minor sulphides in quartz-tourmaline veinlets.

"… The best hole ever drilled on our Rouyn project in terms of combined grade and core length … speaks well for the strength of the mineralising system and the excellent potential of the Rouyn project," said IAMGOLD president Gérald Riverin.

IAMGOLD in May reported "encouraging" initial results from the winter exploration programme, including 3.56g/t over 12m, including 5.33g/t over 6m; 11.02g/t over 7.75m, including 15.44g/t over 5m; and 8.21g/t over 10.6m, which incudes 12.37g/t over 3m and 26.9g/t over 1m.
