Base Resources is hoping Diane Radley's African finance background will come in handy

Radley was most recently CEO of Old Mutual Investment Group, Africa's largest asset manager. She has also in the past held the CFO role at the company as well as Allied Electronics Corp.

Currently a non-executive director of Murray & Roberts, Radley's appointment is part of the "ongoing evolution of the board to ensure the requisite capability to deliver on the significant opportunities in front of us", Base said.

Earlier this month, the company completed the acquisition of an 85% stake in the Toliara mineral sands asset in Madagascar for US$75 million.
