ICMM CEO Tom Butler has provided the foreword to the "Mining Journal Global Leadership Report: Preparing for transformation" which is being released later this month.

The former soldier who went into the oil and gas industry then mining finance took on his current role in mid-2015.

In his foreword, he notes the growing importance of stakeholder engagement, and mining with principles.

"It has been estimated that 50-60% of a company's reputation is driven by the reputation of its peers," Butler said.

"Therefore, if we want to improve trust in the mining sector, we have to work together as an industry - and along the value chain - to show that we work to principles that are aligned with society's expectations."

He said the recipe was complex but outlined a number of key ingredients and how the best-performing companies delivered them.

This is based on the foreword by International Council on Mining and Metals CEO Tom Butler for the ‘Mining Journal Global Leadership Report: Preparing for transformation', which will be published in late June. The report features around 20 in-depth interviews with the industry's leading mining executives and the results of our industry-wide survey focused on transformational influences (technology, stakeholder engagement etc) and the readiness of mining leaders to meet these challenges.

A growing series of reports, each focused on a key discussion point for the mining sector, brought to you by the Mining Journal Intelligence team.
