The Minerals Council South Africa said it would observe the globally-recognised Global Ethics Day 2020 and use it to reinforce the industry's commitment to its Membership Compact.
The move comes as environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations have become increasingly prominent and are of critical importance, as BlackRock's Evy Hambro said in the foreword to the Mining Journal Global Finance Report 2020.
The council said its compact was a mandatory code of ethical business conduct to which all members subscribed.
It was adopted by the board in 2015.
Among the 10 guiding principles, members commit to implement and maintain ethical business practices and sound systems of corporate governance, strive to achieve zero harm and seek to continually improve environmental performance.
The council's 76 member companies together represented 90% of the country's mineral production by value in 2019.
