The scope of work to be carried out by Thiess includes overburden removal and haulage, coal mining and run of mine rehandling services, equipment maintenance and pit dewatering.

This new contract is in addition to Thiess's existing scope of work for provisioning and maintenance of Coronado's electric shovel and supply of an ultra-class truck fleet.

Coronado CEO Gerry Spindler said the new contract extended its long-standing relationship with Thiess at Curragh North.

"This is the sixth successive contract Thiess has been awarded in a competitive process and is a testament to their focus on safety and ability to achieve production objectives through operational excellence," he said.

"It also provides continuity and stability to Curragh's northern operations while we deliver on our expansion plans."

Thiess has a long record of service at the Curragh mine, in the metallurgical coal-rich Bowen Basin, having operated at the project since 2004.

CIMIC Group CEO Michael Wright said Thiess had a consistent record of exceeding its client's expectations at the mine, through a focus on operational excellence and innovation, and an unrelenting commitment to safety culture and outcomes at Curragh.

"This contract extension reflects Thiess' ongoing ability of creating lasting value for its clients," he said.

CIMIC Group companies Sedgman and UGL provide various operations and maintenance contracts at the Curragh mine.
