The business will be owned 61.5% by Barrick and 38.5% by Newmont, and will be operated by Barrick.
The company's operations produced 4 million ounces of gold last year.
"Nevada Gold Mines will have three tier one gold mines: Barrick's Cortez; the combination of Barrick's Goldstrike and Newmont Goldcorp's Carlin; and Barrick's Turquoise Ridge with Newmont Goldcorp's Twin Creeks. In addition, our Goldrush-Fourmile project has the potential to become the fourth," Barrick CEO Mark Bristow said during a presentation to stakeholders in Elko.
Barrick said its North American regional head Greg Walker had been appointed as executive managing director of Nevada Gold Mines.
Bristow said the JV should be finalised by the end of this quarter.
