The CR Magazine top 100 Best Corporate Citizens list, announced earlier this month, uses 134 "disclosure and performance factors" in seven categories to decide the ranking. The seven categories are anthropogenic climate change, employee relations, environment, finance, governance, human rights and stakeholders and society.
Owens Corning topped the 2019 ranking, followed by Intel, General Mills, Campbell Soup and HP Inc.
Newmont Goldcorp CEO Gary Goldberg said the recognition was "another indicator of how deeply sustainability is embraced by our employees and integrated into our culture".
"We recognise that consistently strong environmental and social performance is central to creating long-term value for all of our stakeholders.
"Not only is it the right thing to do, it is a key measure of how well our business is run overall."
The gold miner was named mining sector leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the fourth consecutive year in 2018, and was among 230 companies in Bloomberg's 2019 Gender-Equality Index with a score of 84 out of 100 above the Index average of 73.
In December of last year, it was included in a ranking by the Drucker Institute and The Wall Street Journal of the top 250 best managed companies, based in part on high scores in employee engagement and social responsibility.
