Gold market optimism and corporate ambition are set to trump rising security concerns as billions of dollars of new foreign investment pour into West Africa’s gold sector over the next few years, cementing the region’s status as the world’s major growth centre for mine supply of the yellow metal. The build-up is being led by majors, but could yet see the emergence of a new Africa gold king to replace Randgold Resources.
