The "Walking with Poldark" walk is running over September 13-15, starting with a mine visit to the South Crofty mine operations, which is being revived by Strongbow Mining.

The walk will then follow historic tram ways past Cornwall's old mining district, taking the 15-strong team past many of the old mine workings, as well as following a number of the coastal walks made famous in the Poldark television series.

On the last day, much of the Penwith Heritage coastal walk between St Ives and Penzance will be covered.

Any donations raised from the event will contribute towards the UK-registered charity's mission of helping to fund the undergraduate or post graduate degrees of over 100 deserving African individuals who are trying to pursue a career in the mining industry.

The individuals all have the grades and/or qualifications, but often cannot secure the funding needed to take up positions at top mining universities, primarily in South Africa.

The charity also awards scholarships to employees of African-based mining companies to progress their careers via further education.

"Through joint ventures with the companies they work for, these individuals are spotted as potential high achievers of the future and are given the appropriate further education to assist their progress in the organisation and industry they work for," the charity said.

The Julian Baring Scholarship was established in 2000 and has undertaken several fund raising events in the past 18 years.
