Reid spent just over a decade as Xstrata's CFO and finance director from 2002 until the merger with Glencore in 2013, during which time its market capitalisation grew from US$500 million to over $50 billion.

He oversaw over 60 major corporate transactions, including public market and private acquisitions, equity raisings, syndicated loan financings and corporate bond issues.

Appian CEO Michael Scherb said his appointment added another high calibre individual to the advisory board with financial and operational experience across a wide range of commodities and regions.
