The People's Bank of China had authorised a set of Panda precious metal coins, the flagship products of the Chinese sovereign mint, in celebration of the iconic Panda series' 40th anniversary on October 20, the WPIC said.
"The range includes the first platinum Pandas to be released since 2005," it said.
The coins would be struck in 99.95% pure platinum and would be available in either a 30g or 1g size, with a face value of 1,000 Yuan and 30 Yuan respectively.
This compared with the 30g and 1g 2022 gold bullion Pandas, which had a face value of 500 Yuan and 10 Yuan, the council said.
It said 10% of the volume would be available outside China and the platinum coins could become a more regular feature in the Panda series if ongoing demand allowed.
The platinum price has slid from a peak of US$1305 an ounce in February to about $1,055/oz on the spot market.
