‘Supply needs to be geography agnostic': ERG

The need for raw materials for the energy transition is so immense that countries must put aside supply-chain anxieties and allow production to flow to wherever it can be most efficiently processed and turned into the world's renewable infrastructure, according to Eurasian Resources Group chief executive Benedikt Sobotka.

Sobotka, who is also co-chair of the Global Battery Alliance, spoke to Mining Journal's Chris Cann about ERG's positioning in the region, the push to deliver raw materials to feed the energy transition, Saudi's emergence as a new supply power, and the need to maintain sustainability standards in the rush to meet explosive increases in commodity demand.

Saudi poised to build modern mining powerhouse

Saudi Arabia has the extractives experience, exposure to renewable energy resources, and the financial clout to turn its mining industry into a sector that not only delivers raw materials for the global energy transition, but is also largely run on green power, according to Eurasian Resources Group chief executive Benedikt Sobotka.

Sobotka, who is also co-chair of the Global Battery Alliance, also spoke to Mining Journal's Chris Cann about Saudi Arabia's ability to provide a positive influence on regional mineral development and the potential hurdles that might stand in the path of strategic agreements with other nations.
